VIDEO - Post processing some images from the real life engagement session
February 6th, 2009 at 12:32pm
Tomorrow is our very first LIME workshop and both Bert & me are very much looking forward to it !
But now it’s movie time. This week I made a post-processing screencast, using some of the images from the first part of the engagement session I showed you last week.
If you like it and want to see more in the future, please take a moment to drop a line in the comments and give us your feedback.
Enjoy !

Unfortunately, since it’s longer than 10 minutes, there won’t be a YouTube version of this movie.

under/over exposure on shots … you are human !?
thanks for sharing, it’s feels like a magician sharing his tricks, unraveling the mysteries
Brilliant video! I learned so much and because of that will go back to Lightroom and start toying with it some more.
Thanks!
I feel like im watching myself in lightroom, we share a love of contrasty, vignetted images.
I been trying to break that habit, but its hard.
GOOD LUCK tomorrow with the workshop tomorrow! Ill be shooting all weekend, but unfortunatly not in your new studio. -Shane
It is a great video , Thanks for all tips and lessons that you are sharing with us .
Yep, nice to see and learn that my workflow resembles yours, so I can’t be wrong
I was pretty surprised to see you only use a very basic set of controls in Lightroom, leaving things like the tone curve or the selective color controls for what they are. Great to be able to take a peek at your post processing workflow though.
Amazing video… a great help to me! How about showing us some of the Photoshop stuff as well… like what is the way you do your vigenettes and things like that?
Thanks for all the videos… really inspirational!
Great video. So good to see the out of the camera shots and what you do with them. rather than just the finished poduct. Really looking forward to the second instalment of the shoot/PP.
Sooooooo interesting!!!!!!!! Thx!
i love those presets, too!
Probably you wanna share them with us (or better you don´t….that could cause some LAW-probs^^)
Like the screencast, but I still prefer the videos
Cheers

Thaks for sharing,
great pictures.
[...] Vandaag heb ik enkele leuke presets gevonden om in Lightroom te plaatsen… Thanks Pieter & Lime. [...]
Thank you guys for taking the time to share the knowlage that you guys have.
Keep up the great work.
Great lime
Hey guys! Love the site.
Here is what I love about it so much. For me it’s very important and useful to see you guys on location shooting the images (the videocamera usually picks it up the way we’d see, as opposed to how our cameras see it), then seeing the images that came out of your cameras (people sometimes think these super expensive cameras take amazing photos and you don’t have to do anything) and then the post-processing to give them the look that we all love.
For me it’s these three things. And if you can and want to keep going with this, I’d be eternally thankful to you.
You guys rock!
You did it again Pieter,
Very interesting video and it tells us a lot.
I’m sure a lot of Lime addicts are more comfortable see you making those beautifull results without big secrets and tricks. It all stays rather ‘natural’
It is all about making the photo’s and the interaction with your model and of course your own taste and style.
I believe a lot of Limers will awake early tomorrow to make great shots and finalize them by tomorrow night with a happy face.
Thanks for sharing again.
Also I wish A lot of success for you on the workshop tomorrow
Regards,
Jasper Van Tilburgh
This shoot was the one that inspired me to shoot my first Family Portrait on location. Please visit my set here http://www.flickr.com/photos/jun_madayag2002/sets/72157613416072033/ its not as good as what you did but you really inspired me to do my first shoot!
Thanks!

Very nice video Pieter. You have a talent for putting together clear, easy to understand videos of various techniques. Can’t wait to see part 2!
Many thanks for sharing your tips! Have to subscribe to keep my eyes on LIME :))
Guys, you need to get some other photographers involved. Maybe landscape or sports or photojournalism. With all the portraits and vignettes STL is starting to feel a little over focused on wedding photography.
You guys simply blow me away…. good luck with everything!!!
Brilliant video again. There is so much to learn about. One thing I would like to know is what about your whitebalance? Do you nail it already on the shooting or do you use automatic white balance? Not sure about the 5D as I’m a Nikon user. And additionally one thing: Maybe you can show how you create your vignettes in Photoshop in one of your next videos. I would be very interested. Thanks a lot.

Great stuff as always. Two suggestions. One, it would be great to have a screen cast on how you do your vignettes in Photoshop,
especially when you apply two vignettes to make things pop. Second, it would be interesting to have a screen cast that shows
your work flow of one picture using both Lightroom and Photoshop. Thus, two things that came to my mind. Once again, super
stuff. Every time I see your stuff I motivates me to pick up 5D and get out there.
Greetings from Tokyo!
Great video, its nice to see that even pros sometimes make little exposure mistakes.Very helpful and you show some great stuff from Lightroom.I’m a big fan or LR also and this gives me some more to learn from it.Thanks a lot!
B/W conversions can cover up a multitude of sins
Thanks for sharing your wisdom as always!
I have really enjoyed your site! I love all of the videos. I use ACR and have been very happy with it thus far….what are the benfits of lightroom over ACR?? Love the vignettes! I usually burn the edges to make my vignettes but would love to learn a simple way to make vignettes. Thanks again! I will be checking back in often!
Wish I was closer…..coming to the states??
many thanks !
Less then 15 minutes of LIME, and I learned a lot more than a whole semester in the evening school!
I always blame myself if I have to spend ours on finalizing a shoot. Also a lot of my pictures are imperfect after the shoot. I got headaches that my shots never showed up the way I see your beautiful pictures. And I blamed my skills…
But now I realize that even the best need a small finishing touch to get the pictures to an incredible level of beautynes!
Thanks for sharing!
It was hard to wait until my break at 12h to look at the video.
Very cool to see your processing, the presets you use, etc.
I’m asking me what’s the difference between the LR vignette and the photoshop vignette. Do you only use the burn tool to create the vignette in photoshop or not?
Thanks a lot Pieter.
Hi Pieter
You say you cannot control (or dislike) the local adjustment brush in LR2.x
How come ? Would you mind to be a bit more specific ?
I am just curious, since for me the opposite is true really: Since LR2.x I hardly ever use Photoshop CS and do 99% of my work exclusively in LR. The main points for me are ease of use, non-destructive dodge/burn/other-adjustments and not “leaving” LR.
If you or others are interested, I wrote a tiny article how I go about my street photography development in LR, including local edits: http://blog.theartofthemoment.net/2008/11/some-people-have-asked-me-how-i-do-my.html
Enjoy, all the best,
Markus
Thanks so much for sharing this! I love video tutorial.
I’m just an enthusiastic (aka crazy!) hobbiest and I’ve found Lightroom is really much more intuitive to use than Photoshop … even for someone taking a bunch of pictures of just her family
Pieter, Your videos are so helpful. Thank you!
I was wondering what it is that you like about LightRoom. Why do you use LR first and then transfer to PhotoShop for finishing touches? You said in the video that you don’t like the vignettes in LR, but what do you find better that makes you use it over PS?
I just wanted to thank you guys from my heart, as you are REAL PHOTOGRAPHERS. I truly appreciate your videos and the way that you share your knowledge. Your video on post processing impressed me, as you did not hide the fact that some images were under exposed and you showed the COMPLETE BEFORE AND AFTER, VERY NICE!!! Your honesty means a great deal to all of us who are learning from your examples and I am truly grateful for all that you are doing. Keep up the great work guys and I AM A FAN FOR LIFE!!

Loved the video, would love more of these.
I was amazed how simple post processing was for how beautiful the images turned out.
I appreciate your providing behind the scenes footage. You are very kind, cheers!
very very nice vid! thanks for sharing!!
[...] und man es so nicht gleich erkennt. Heute habe ich bei dem Projekt squeezethelime.com ein Video entdeckt, dass sehr schön zeigt wie Bilder nach einem Shooting mit Lightroom und Photoshop [...]
Thank you so much for your generosity.
I was hoping you can run a video showing the initial upload of your images and archiving steps before you actually start retouching. I believe this topic is very underestimated in how necessary it is.
Pieter,
I am touched by your honesty about the mistake of the lightning settings. I learn a lot here and you guys inspire me. Thank you for all this.
I am so grateful to have stumbled on Bert’s site which led me to this one as well. As a novice LR user (and by novice I mean I didn’t even know there were presets before this!) I learned a monumental amount of information from this video. It was just over 12 minutes long but it took me over 3 hours to get to the end because I would stop it and look at David Jay’s stuff, then I googled Sugar and Spice Sepia which led me to a ton of free presets. Once I had them installed I went and messed around with them and edited an entire set of photos before coming back to finish the video. Thank you guys so much for doing this site. I will be back as often as possible. You guys are awesome!
