VIDEO : post processing an image from the real life engagement session part II
Sunday is the big day for me, it’s the première of my Capturing Romance workshop. It’s fully booked so the pressure is on me now to make sure it’ll become a super cool experience for everyone.
For this week’s movie I made another screencast. After my last post-processing screencast quite a few people have been asking to see the photoshop side of my work, so I decided to show you guys.
I took one image from the engagement session and took it from out-of-camera to finished photo. I hope you guys find it usefull !
On a sidenote, I said something wrong in the video : I said I painted in the mask layer with a black brush while actually that’s a white brush
Enjoy !

Unfortunately, since it’s longer than 10 minutes, there won’t be a YouTube version of this movie.

Ahh my favorite time of the week home on a Friday after work learning some cool things on lime thank you for sharing
Very cool to see how other people approach a specific ‘task’, in this case: post processing images. Thanks for the tip about the Kubota actions too by the way. Doing most of my work in Lightroom I’ve never really used Photoshop all that much so tips on where to find some decent actions are always welcome.
Thanks for sharing!
I’d love to see some info about how to use a software solution to calibrate your monitors I have have a couple of 24″ screens and the colors between them are very different. What you Bert and Pieter use other than the hardware devices
@ Jason:
I you’d listened to the podcast, they have mentioned what kind of hardware calibrator they use. Bert is using the Eye-One and Pieter is using the Spyder 3.
Also Some good photoshop actions can also be found for free on deviantart.com by the users.
but yea pieter spilled the beans on k. kubota and his actions haha, they are expensive as hell, but are a good way to learn how stuff works in PS.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Both you and Bert are doing a great job and I have really enjoyed learning from both of you!
Cool vid as always guys.
I had the Kubota actions for a bit, but once I got the Jeff Ascough ones I never looked back.
@Jason
I have an Eye-One too and although it was expensive I can’t live without it. Once you get one you’ll know why (or get someone to calibrate your screens for you).
The before/after button makes you realise just how far out your colours/contrast/brightness was. Top tool

Hi Pieter, I have 3 questions regarding your shoot.
It was an hour long shoot, but can you say roughly how many shots you took, how many you selected for final editing and how long it took you to edit them?
Many thanks and keep up the great work
CallumW
@Thomas, Yes I did listen to that but ATM I am looking for software ways of doing it
@CallumW
Thanks I will get one one day just now now saving for a house, In the mean time what software methods are good and how do you go about them ?
Most monitors these days have so many features like Magic bright and other annoying features I assume its best to just turn them off or if there is no option just down, Then use one of those charts where you adjust until you see all the squares like this http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos5dmarkii/
Wow, thanks! This fills in the leftover questions I had after the first video. Thanks for sharing your secrets. I appreciate it!
Hi guys,
What technology are your monitors? I mean: S-IPS, MVA… I think that it’s important to calibrate the monitor and its quality.
I’ve made a topic for those of you who have flickr and have any tips or other questions about monitor calibrating

Excellent, thanks again from Ireland for the time you are giving to these videos and the blog it is great, please keep it up I am learning loads.
thx for sharing Pieter !
Hey Guys
I really like your website.
For me it is great to see the whole production of the images, form the shoot to post production. It really helps me to learn more and to increase the quallity of my pictures.
Please keep it up! Your site will definately be visited frequently by me.
A little feedback from me:
Your videos and content is great. I like that you concentrat on just very few images in the postproduction tutorials. But sometimes your explanations are to quick. I would like you to summarise all the tools and buttons you used. Just write down what you have done in the artikle surrounding the videos. You also referred to some actions and presets. The name are sometime hard to understand, due to your accent. Links would be great.

Really appreciate all the shoot & PP footage. Great to see the working behind some great images.
Keep up the good work.
Great hands-on tutorial Pieter!! Thanks for sharing!
