Callum: Advertorial is what you are describing and I think you should find it is tagged as such at the top of the page. Quite possible that they have to tag it these days to stop people from believeing it is actual editorial content. I would hope most folk are smart enough to see what it is and take it or leave it....I never read them myself.

TiredPhotographer: I think Callum hit the nail on the head. I couldn't care less if Bert and Pietre get a few freebies out of this. I couldn't care less if David Hobby gets some Nikon flash kit or pocket wizards either (not that I think he has) or Chase Jarvis or anyone else gets free camera's. All I care about is whether I am gaining any relevant information that will help me develop as a photographer and businessman. If the guys post a video of their escapades with the sunbounce stuff and all the images are crappy and poor and I learn nothing then it wont take me long to stop coming back...and I suspect many others would stop as well. If the video ends up showing great useage of the products and I learn from it and it inspires me then I'll be back for more.....I am kind of suspecting that the latter will happen....

Maakt niet uit, het tripje met de bounce squad zal hopelijk wel een leuk filmpje opleveren.

Doesn't matter, the bounce squad movie will probaly a good alternative.

This blog isn't all about the newest and the best camera gear you have to buy to take better pictures, but about how to use the potential you already have with your gear. At least this is what I recognize.

They may use Canon, or Nikon or whatever, doesn't matter. If this blog advertises something, then it's their own service. And there I see no problem.

I'm looking forward to your next video-podcast ;-)

Greetings, Munro

@Tired Photographer
Also in the mags.

In every copy of Professional Photographer I bought sofar there's at lease a double spread 'written by a pro' on how they switched from Film to the Sony Alpha and how great it is and it's perfect and almost as good as their hasselblad yadda yadda ya.....
I never even gives a balanced opinion.

Yet (even in the same mag) in other reviews it states that, although Sony make the Nikon sensor's for them, they can't compete with the performance of either Nikon or Canon - esp in lower light/high ISO.

I wonder how much Sony are paying for the double page?
It reads like an article, but it becomes obvious pretty quickly its a sales pitch written by a journo or by Sony staff.

I wonder if they'll do it in the next one too (that'll make 4 in a row)

However, your point that individual shooters are 'selling out' to corporate clients, I don't mind as long as they use the gear and their work is of a high standard or even if it improves with the access to better/more gear.
Nothing worse than someone promoting something then not even touching it in real life

I have a friend I sometimes work with that was sponsored by Canon a few years back. She has buckets of natural talent and the sponsorship got her a 1Ds MkII and a 5D and their help definately boosted her career and longevity.
She wasn't high profile, but Canon recognised her talent and so sponsored her. I think a lot of that goes on, but you won't see it unless you move in those circles.

Just think of it as another area of business. It's an income however you earn it.
Especially at the moment, cashflow is king and a high profile is still one of the best ways to get work

Is anyone else getting tired of all the web-popular photographers selling out their names and brands to corporations to pawn gear?

Common' is it REALLY about Learning, Inspiring, Motivating and Experiencing? Or is it about trying to land that corporate sponsor?

Fail.
