I didn’t know if I should post it as a reaction on the podcast about the jack-of-all-trades or on the vision-part of Bert’s chair-series.

@Geoff: Nothing wrong with shooting everything and anything as a hobby. One day you’ll probably notice that you are doing this one thing more and better than the others. You won’t find the muse if you look for her, she’ll come to you when she’s ready.
I like the 70-200 so much because it has the versatility of a zoom lens and matches prime image quality at the same time. That said the 50mm 1.4 is my second most used lens.

@Mike: Time to start planning that vacation in Europe around one of our workshops then

Love this - same as Jason, stuck around for the whole thing…

This has really inspired (whaddayaknow) me to try off-camera flashes, or even flashes at all (so far, it has been all ambient).

So instead of writing a huge comment, I’m going to go experiment some more.

Great show guys, I usually have a very short attention span but I stuck around for this.
Really love the style of photography in old buildings or anywhere similar I have yet to try my own hand in this and will do very soon, May I suggest you look at the possibility of Squeeze the LIME discounts with any brands of lighting gear such as sunbounce or any brand that is willing I’m keen to get some similar gear to what you are using so I can try to obtain similar shots.

I am really enjoying LIME! I appreciate the work you guys do to help beginners like us improve our craft. I also enjoy the mix of fun and education you have in what you do. Appreciate your time and efforts. I would love to attend your workshops. Would just have to figure a way to justify a trip across the Atlantic!

Yay! Assignments! I like jumping into assignments. They give me an opportunity to try some shots that I wouldn’t otherwise. And that leads into another topic to discuss. Problems solving. How do you save a shoot when you think to yourself, “This shot would be great if I had my, (some piece of equipment). I wish I didn’t leave it at home.” Or for us amateurs who’d like to try some other types of photography but really don’t have the equipment for it. I usually improvise. Sometimes a big piece of white foam core from the art store is your best friend.

Oh, you talked about being a jack of all trades, but to concentrate on being an expert at your chosen speciality. How do you choose a speciality? For you it is your business, but for me I’m having trouble finding my muse. I take sport shots of my son’s basketball and soccer, theater shots of my daughter’s ballet, nature and landscape shots of my backyard and the park, portraits, product shots for a try at stock, etc. Although I kind of groove on late night, low light, shots of interesting lighting that I happen across.

I notice that you shoot a LOT of your pictures with a longer zoom lens. Do you want to comment on why you choose that one versus a prime? I personally love my 50mm prime and shoot almost everything with it. (See above about low light photography. The 50mm prime is my fastest lens.)
